Topless in Miami Presented by Haartz has added a new twist for 2016 as it returns for its sixth consecutive year.

Recognizing a popular trend of recent years, the annual convertible competition run by the Southern Automotive Media Association will include a category for vehicles with a panoramic sunroof or moonroof that offers an “al fresco” driving experience for drivers and all passengers.

“This new category will give more manufacturers the opportunity to compete in one of SAMA’s signature events,” SAMA President Pepe Delfino said. “Automakers are offering this feature on vehicles of all kinds, from coupes to SUVs, and in the affordable as well as luxury segments.“We feel the time is right to include them in this popular event.”

The annual event once again will headquartered at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne resort on Thursday, June 2.More than 60 automotive journalists will spend the day scoring vehicles to determine winners in six classes: Super Luxury/Exotic, Luxury, Full-Size, Performance, Small, and now Panoramic. One winner from the first five categories will emerge with the title “Convertible of the Year.”

Past winners of that award have been Porsche Boxster GTS in 2015, Audi RS5 (2014), Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet (2013). Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster (2012) and the Audi R8 Spyder (2011)

SAMA is an organization of automotive journalists, representatives of media organizations, corporate communications specialists, marketing and advertising representatives, and auto manufacturers related to South Florida’s dynamic automotive industry. Based in Miami, it was formed in March 2007 and has grown to include more than 140 members from around the South and country.
